Factory gate prices for UK-manufactured goods increased 3.7% year-on-year in August 2026, accelerating from an upwardly revised 3.3% rise in July, which was the softest increase in four months, and surpassing expectations of 3.3% to mark the fastest increase in three months.
Eight of the 10 product groups made upward contributions to the annual rate, led by a jump in prices of coke and refined petroleum products (49.1% vs 35.4% in July) amid higher energy costs.
Price growth accelerated for basic metals, fabricated metal products, and machinery (5.6% vs 4.9% in July), as well as alcoholic beverages and tobacco products (2.0% vs 1.2%), while it slowed for other manufactured products (3.5% vs 4.5%).
Meanwhile, motor vehicles and other transport equipment made the largest downward contribution, with prices falling 1.4%, followed by food products, where prices dropped 0.9%.
Monthly, factory gate prices rose 0.7%, after an upwardly revised 0.4% gain in July and above forecasts of 0.3%.
