UK 10Y Bond Yield Hits 14-week High

UK 10 Year Government Bond Yield increased to 5.16%, the highest since May 2026. Over the past 4 weeks, United Kingdom 10Y Bond Yield gained 3.62 basis points, and in the last 12 months, it increased 35.35 basis points.

UK 10-year gilt yields remained slightly above 5% as investors weighed hawkish comments from Fed Chair Kevin Warsh against lower Brent crude prices, which eased UK inflation concerns and pushed expectations for the next BoE rate hike into 2027 from late 2026. In his first major speech since becoming chair in May, Warsh warned that inflation has not meaningfully slowed and said policymakers need clearer evidence that underlying price pressures are easing; otherwise, the Fed still has “work to do.” Meanwhile, LSEG data showed markets pricing around 24 basis points of BoE tightening by December and 36 basis points by February 2027. UK inflation rose to 2.9% in July, driven by higher household energy bills, and is expected to climb further toward year-end. However, the labor market has remained subdued, potentially making the BoE more cautious about tightening policy in the near term.

UK 10-year gilt yields edged higher to 5.04%, after touching a near two-week low on Wednesday, as Brent crude prices paused their recent sell-off. Still, the sharp decline in oil prices in recent sessions has eased inflation concerns and prompted markets to push expectations for the next Bank of England rate hike from late 2026 into 2027. LSEG data showed around 24 bps of tightening priced in by December and 36 bps by the February 2027 meeting. Less than 4 bps is priced in for the BoE's September meeting, implying about a 15% chance of a hike. Most economists have long expected the BoE to keep rates unchanged at 3.75% this year, although markets had been pricing a hike amid concerns over a potential escalation in the US-Iran conflict. UK inflation rose to 2.9% in July, driven by higher household energy bills, and is expected to increase further toward year-end, while the labour market remained subdued. Investors now await Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's speech at Jackson Hole on Friday.
