Gold production in South Africa increased by 0.7% year-on-year in January 2026, easing sharply from an upwardly revised 2% in the previous month. This marked the second consecutive month of growth in gold production, albeit at a slower pace, and it contributed 0.1 percentage point to overall mining output growth. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, gold production grew by 0.6%, slowing from a 7.4% growth in December 2025.
