South Africa Gold Production Rebounds

Gold production in South Africa increased by 1.1% year-on-year in December 2025, rebounding from a 6% fall in the previous month.

This marked the first annual increase since September and contributed 0.1 percentage point to overall mining output growth.

On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, gold production surged by 7.4%, recovering strongly from a sharp 10.3% decline in November.

The decline shaved 0.1 percentage point off overall year-on-year growth in total mining output. On a seasonally adjusted basis, gold production declined 3.7% in October, following a 6.6% gain the previous month.

Gold production in South Africa jumped 5.9% year-on-year in September 2025, the strongest annual gain since July 2023, following a 3.6% decline in August. It added 0.6 percentage point to the overall year-on-year growth in total mining output. On a seasonally adjusted basis, gold production increased 6.6% in September, rebounding from a 3.6% drop in August.
