The FTSE 100 edged 0.3% higher on Tuesday, extending its winning streak to six sessions, its longest run since May.

Melrose was among the strongest performers, surging more than 10% after the aerospace group announced a $100 million claims programme linked to damage at its GKN Aerospace facility in California.

The criminal investigation into the incident has been closed, with operations expected to resume next month.

Healthcare stocks also provided support, with AstraZeneca rising 3% and GSK gaining 1.1%, while Rolls-Royce added around 2%.

Mining stocks were similarly firm, led by Glencore, up 1.4%, and Rio Tinto, which gained 0.9%.

In contrast, sharply lower oil prices weighed on Shell and BP, while BAT fell 1.5%.

Market sentiment benefited from reports that the US could return diplomats to Middle Eastern embassies, easing fears of further escalation in the Iran conflict.

Falling energy prices also helped reduce concerns over renewed inflationary pressures.

FTSE 100 Rises for 6th Day
The FTSE 100 traded higher on Tuesday, extending its winning streak to six sessions, its longest run of gains since May. Melrose was among the strongest performers, rising more than 8% after the aerospace company announced a $100 million claims programme related to damage at its GKN Aerospace facility in California. A criminal investigation into the incident has been closed, while the site is expected to resume operations next month. Oil prices were only slightly lower after the US unveiled new sanctions targeting businesses involved in Iran’s trade network. The measures, dubbed “Operation Economic Outcast” by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, have affected companies in China and Hong Kong but have so far avoided major Chinese financial institutions. Meanwhile, weakness in both precious and industrial metals weighed on miners.
