The FTSE 100 Index Closes 0.37% Higher

The FTSE 100 Index gained 39 points or 0.37 percent on Tuesday to close at 10378 points. Gains were led by Antofagasta (6.47%), Easyjet Plc (5.43%) and Glencore (4.40%). Biggest losers were Airtel Africa (-5.21%), The Sage Group (-4.37%) and Endeavour (-4.30%).

The FTSE 100 edged higher on Tuesday as falling oil prices boosted sentiment on renewed hopes of a lasting US-Iran peace deal, following an announcement that Israel and Hezbollah would pause hostilities in Lebanon. Mining stocks led the gains in London, with Antofagasta rising more than 6%, Glencore and Anglo American adding over 4%, and Rio Tinto up more than 3%. Banks also strengthened, as HSBC Holdings, Barclays and Standard Chartered gained 2.3%, 3.3% and 2.7% respectively. In contrast, British American Tobacco fell around 3% despite reaffirming full-year guidance and pointing to strong momentum in its Modern Oral and Vapour segments.

The FTSE 100 Index is gaining 20 points or 0.19 percent on Tuesday. Leading the gains are Entain (3.66%), Fresnillo (3.52%) and Antofagasta (3.16%). Top losers are British American Tobacco (-3.32%), Airtel Africa (-2.27%) and Imperial Brands (-1.53%).
