UK retail sales rose by 0.6% month-on-month in July 2025, accelerating from a 0.3% increase in June and exceeding market expectations of a 0.2% gain.
However, June’s figure was revised sharply lower from an initial estimate of 0.9%, following adjustments to seasonal factors and corrections in reporting methods.
In July, sales volumes at non-store retailers and clothing stores both grew by 2.5%, supported by new product launches, favorable weather, and increased spending linked to the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 tournament.
On an annual basis, retail sales were 1.1% higher in July, following a downwardly revised 0.9% gain in June but below forecasts of 1.3%.
Over the three months to July, sales fell by 0.6%, ending a run of four consecutive periods of three-month-on-three-month growth.
