Business investment in the United Kingdom fell 4% quarter-on-quarter in the three months to June 2025, reversing a 3.9% expansion in the previous period, which had marked the strongest growth since Q1 2023.
The latest reading came in well below market expectations, anticipating a much smaller slowdown to a 0.1% gain.
On a year-on-year basis, business investment increased 0.1%, moderating sharply from the 6.1% rise in the prior quarter, which was the fastest annual growth in nearly three years.
The latest figures highlight a clear slowdown in investment activity, suggesting that businesses are adopting a more cautious approach amid ongoing economic uncertainties.
