The UK 10-year gilt yield slipped below 4.5% amid lingering geopolitical concerns and easing domestic political uncertainty.
Globally, the framework agreement over Greenland between the US and NATO remains unresolved, while President Trump warned he could impose 100% tariffs on Canada if it moves forward with a trade deal with China.
Domestically, the Labour Party blocked potential leadership challenger Andy Burnham from running for a parliamentary seat, preventing him from pursuing the premiership.
This follows last week’s concerns from investors over a potential left-leaning, higher-spending Labour leadership.
Markets are also focused on Wednesday’s Federal Reserve meeting, where rates are widely expected to remain unchanged, amid speculation that a more dovish successor to Fed Chair Jerome Powell could be named this week.
