UK car production dropped 11.6% year-on-year to 82,178 units in February 2025, impacted by weak domestic and overseas demand, model changeovers, and plant restructuring.
Domestic output plunged 22.3% to 18,401 units, while exports declined 8% to 63,777 units.
The EU remained the top destination for UK car exports (53.5%), followed by the US (19.7%) and China (6.3%).
Production of battery electric, plug-in hybrid, and hybrid vehicles fell 5.6% to 27,398 units but slightly increased their market share to 37.1% from 36.3% a year ago.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders emphasized the urgent need for measures to enhance the UK’s competitiveness and stimulate consumer demand, particularly in the EV sector.
