The Nikkei 225 Index jumped 3.26% to close at 66,231, while the broader Topix Index gained 2.44% to 4,015 on Tuesday, recovering most of last week's losses as investors returned from a holiday-extended weekend, with technology stocks leading the advance.
The recent selloff in semiconductor and artificial intelligence-related shares showed signs of easing after US chipmakers posted overnight gains.
Leading technology performers in Japan included Kioxia Holdings (17.2%), Advantest (7.7%), Taiyo Yuden (6.4%), SoftBank Group (6%), and Tokyo Electron (2.3%).
Financial and consumer stocks also moved higher, including Mitsubishi UFJ (3.1%), Sumitomo Mitsui (3.4%), and Fast Retailing (2.5%).
Meanwhile, investors continued to monitor ongoing hostilities in the Middle East, which drove oil prices higher and reignited concerns over inflation and the possibility of interest rate hikes.
