The Nikkei 225 Index rose 291 points or 0.47 percent on Tuesday to close at 62709 points.

Leading the gains are Furukawa Electric (15.84%), Fujikura (12.37%) and Shimizu Corporation (9.84%).

Top losers were Pacific Metals (-15.69%), Yamaha (-8.32%) and Z Holdings (-7.87%).

Japanese Shares Rise on Strength in Tech Stocks
The Nikkei 225 Index climbed 0.52% to close at 62,743, while the broader Topix Index also gained 0.83% to 3,873 on Tuesday, with the Nikkei trading close to record levels as technology shares extended gains amid sustained optimism surrounding AI-driven demand. Investors also largely shrugged off President Donald Trump’s warning that the US-Iran ceasefire was on “massive life support” after he rejected Tehran’s latest peace proposal. In Japan, the Summary of Opinions from the Bank of Japan’s April meeting showed policymakers discussing the possibility of additional interest rate hikes as early as the next meeting, as rising oil prices heightened inflation concerns. Gains among technology and AI-related stocks were led by Fujikura (11.6%), Ibiden Co (5.7%), SoftBank Group (4.3%) and Renesas Electronics (7.1%). Meanwhile, JX Advanced Metals plunged more than 16% after announcing plans to issue new convertible bonds to fund a share buyback program.

The Nikkei 225 Index Closes 0.38% Lower
The Nikkei 225 Index dropped 240 points or 0.38 percent on Monday to close at 62474 points. Losses were led by Nintendo Co (-8.58%), Softbank (-6.80%) and IHI (-6.54%). Offsetting the fall, top gainers were Konami (9.91%), Ajinomoto (9.22%) and Sony (8.86%).
