French Registered Unemployment Falls in June

The number of people registered as out of work in mainland France fell by 148.3 thousand from the previous month to 4.167 million in May of 2020 as people who remain partly active in the labour market were reclassified under a broader definition of being out of work. Still, it is the second-highest number on record Unemployment among people aged 25 to 49 decreased by 98.2 thousand to 2.495 million, and that among young people went down by 8.2 thousand to 0.620 million. The number of people registered as out of work in mainland France surged by 827.1 thousand from the previous month to 4.316 million in April of 2020. It was the biggest increase in registered unemployment and the highest level since series began in January of 1996 amid the coronavirus epidemic. Unemployment among people aged 25 to 49 jumped by 520.1 thousand to 2.593 million, and that among young people went up by 147.4 thousand to 0.628 million. French Unemployment Rises the Most on Record
The number of people registered as out of work in mainland France surged by 243 thousand from the previous month to 3.489 million in March of 2020. It was the biggest increase in registered unemployment since the start of 1996 and the highest level since August of 2017 as the coronavirus outbreak hit businesses and activity across the country. Unemployment among people aged 25 to 49 jumped by 157.9 thousand to 2.073 million, and that among young people went up by 37.6 thousand to 0.481 million.
