The Shanghai Composite fell 0.5% to 3,932 on Thursday, while the Shenzhen Component dropped 0.5% to 13,657, tracking losses across Asian markets as surging oil prices fueled inflation concerns.

Crude oil prices remained elevated after Iran signaled readiness for a more intense conflict, while US President Donald Trump ruled out a quick end to the war, saying it was unlikely to conclude before the November midterm elections.

Domestically, investors are seeing signs of rising inflationary pressures, with annual consumer inflation accelerating in August as higher food and energy prices pushed up costs.

The pick up reflected renewed concerns over potential supply disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz amid escalating tensions between the US and Iran.

Among the biggest decliners, Foxconn Industrial Internet fell 1.2%, Ping An Insurance lost 1.8%, CATL dropped 1.5%, and Zhongji Innolight slid 1.8%.

China Stocks Gain After Inflation Data
The Shanghai Composite rose 0.28% to close at 3,951.5 on Wednesday, while the Shenzhen Component added 0.15% to 13,723.3, even as renewed inflationary pressures from higher energy costs added to concerns about China's slowing economy. Annual consumer inflation rose to 0.8% in August, matching forecasts and accelerating from a six-month low of 0.5% in July. Producer price inflation also picked up to 3.8% from a three-month low of 3.5%, exceeding market expectations of 3.7%. The rise in inflation was driven mainly by higher energy costs amid ongoing Middle East tensions. While the country has emerged from a prolonged period of deflation, weak consumer demand continues to limit companies' ability to pass rising costs on to households as the economy slows and fiscal support becomes more restrained. Notable gainers included China Construction Bank (1.31%), China Shenhua Energy (2.18%), Midea Group (1.02%), and Suzhou Dongshan Precision Manufacturing (5.17%).
