The Shangai Composite Index Closes 0.61% Lower

The Shangai Composite Index dropped 24 points or 0.61 percent on Monday to close at 3881 points. Losses were led by Sanan Optoelectron (-6.09%), Yonyou Soft (-5.40%) and Guangzhou Baiy (-3.87%). Offsetting the fall, top gainers were Sinopec (4.31%), China Coal (3.57%) and Ping An Insurance (3.00%).

SHANGHAI 50 decreased to 2868.00 Index Points, the lowest since July 2026. Over the past 4 weeks, Shanghai 50 lost 2.78%, and in the last 12 months, it decreased 4.06%.

The Shanghai Composite fell 0.59% to close at 3,882 on Monday, while the Shenzhen Component lost 2.13% to 13,794.3, with both benchmarks ending at their lowest levels in nearly three weeks as a broad selloff in technology stocks weighed on sentiment. The sector came under renewed pressure amid concerns over fundraising plans by Alibaba Group Holding and Yangtze Memory Technologies. Leading decliners included SMIC (-3.38%), Cambricon Technologies (-6.37%), Hygon Information Technology (-6.25%), Zhongji Innolight (-7.72%), Eoptolink Technology (-6.79%), and Victory Giant Technology (-3.44%). Investors also remained cautious ahead of a busy earnings week, with heavyweight firms including BYD, PetroChina, CNOOC, and Eoptolink Technology set to report results. Focus also turned to the National People's Congress Standing Committee meeting on August 25–28, where markets will look for fresh policy support following a string of underwhelming economic data and recent pledges to bolster growth.
