Japan Foreign Reserves Hit 15-Month Low

Reserve assets in Japan fell significantly to $1.232 trillion in May 2024 from $1.279 trillion, the lowest since February last year as the government conducted foreign exchange intervention operations to defend the yen.
Total reserve assets were broken down into foreign currency reserves ($1.087 trillion), IMF reserve position ($10,659 million), SDRs ($56,930 million), gold ($63,870 million) and other reserve assets ($13,579 million).
Japan previously reported that it spent 9,788.5 billion yen from April 26, 2024 to May 29, 2024 in foreign exchange intervention operations.
