The DAX Index Closes 0.50% Lower

The DAX 40 edged higher to around 25,900 on Thursday, though remaining near one-month lows, reflecting a cautious sentiment across markets. Elevated Middle East hostilities continued to worry investors, though President Trump’s remarks that the conflict would not last “too long” provided some reassurance. Oil prices and bond yields also stabilised after their sharp rise earlier in the week, helping to support broader sentiment. Telecommunications, software and chemical stocks led sectoral gains, while industrials, travel-related stocks and autos came under pressure. Deutche Telekom was among the top performers, rising 1.4%, following reports that Elliott investment built up a larger stake in an attempt to prevent a multi-billion dollar merger with T-Mobile US. SAP, Siemens Energy and Heidelberg Materials also advanced firmly, each adding over 1%, while Rheinmetall (-1.9%) and Airbus (-1.7%) lagged.

The DAX Index is up by 29 points or 0.11 percent on Thursday. Top gainers are Deutsche Telekom (1.37%), Siemens Energy (1.08%) and SAP (1.04%). Biggest losses came from Daimler Truck Holding AG (-1.29%), Rheinmetall (-1.14%) and Airbus (-1.03%).

The DAX Index dropped 131 points or 0.50 percent on Wednesday to close at 25839 points. Losses were led by Zalando (-5.21%), Volkswagen (-3.83%) and Porsche Automobil (-3.39%). Offsetting the fall, top gainers were Qiagen NV (2.31%), Commerzbank (1.70%) and Rheinmetall (1.20%).
