DAX 40 Rises to Over 3-Week High
The DAX 40 advanced more than 0.5% to trade above 25,600 on Thursday, reaching its highest level since the record highs of early July, as investors welcomed upbeat economic data and a rebound in semiconductor stocks. Germany’s economy expanded by 0.2% in Q1, exceeding expectations for 0.1% growth, while annual inflation accelerated to 2.8% in July from 2.3%, also topping forecasts. Infineon surged nearly 10%, leading gains as chipmakers recovered from recent losses. However, Adidas slumped 13% after lifting its revenue outlook but warning that rising costs would weigh on earnings growth. Airbus also declined around 3%, despite reporting solid second-quarter results, as investors were disappointed the aircraft manufacturer only reaffirmed, rather than upgraded, its full-year guidance.

DAX Falls on Earnings, Fed Split, and Middle East Tensions
Frankfurt's DAX 40 declined 0.5% to 25,350 on Thursday as investors assessed a wave of corporate earnings, fresh economic data, escalating tensions in the Middle East, and growing uncertainty over the US interest rate outlook. Adidas tumbled 16% after raising its revenue forecast but warning that higher costs would weigh on earnings growth. Airbus lost more than 2% despite strong second-quarter results, as the aircraft maker only reaffirmed its full-year guidance. On the data front, stronger-than-expected GDP growth across major euro area economies and higher inflation readings in Germany and Spain reinforced expectations that the ECB could deliver a second rate hike this year. Meanwhile, renewed US airstrikes on Iran in response to attacks on American forces across the Middle East lifted oil prices and weighed on market sentiment. On Wednesday, the Federal Reserve kept interest rates unchanged, though three FOMC members dissented in favor of a rate hike, adding to policy uncertainty.
