Frankfurt's DAX 40 edged higher to around 24,870 on Monday, after two straight weeks of losses driven by a correction in AI-related stocks and heightened geopolitical tensions.
Oil prices gave up earlier gains as investors weighed renewed diplomatic efforts against escalating conflict in the Middle East.
Brent crude slipped back below $88 per barrel after briefly approaching $90, as reports that mediators had proposed a pause in US-Iran hostilities helped ease concerns over threats by Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels to maritime traffic from Saudi Arabia.
Strong gains in RWE, up 3.8%, Siemens Energy, up 3.3%, Fresenius, up 2.9%, and Zalando, up 2.2%, outweighed declines across several heavyweight stocks.
Airbus lost 1%, Deutsche Post fell 1.1%, Deutsche Bank slipped 0.6%, Merck eased 0.9%, BASF dropped 1%, while Mercedes-Benz, Deutsche Boerse, and BMW were also lower.
