Germany’s New Car Registrations Surge 15.7% in June

Germany’s new car registrations climbed 15.7% year-over-year to 296,378 units in June 2026.
Private registrations surged 28.6%, accounting for 36.6% of the total, while commercial registrations rose 9.4%, making up 63.4%.
Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) saw the strongest growth, with 84,057 units registered, a 78.2% increase and capturing a 28.4% market share.
In contrast, gasoline-powered car registrations fell 16.8%, holding a 20.5% share, and diesel registrations declined 5.1%, with an 11.4% share.
In the first half of 2026, total new car registrations reached 1.48 million, up 5.8% from the same period in 2025.
BEVs led with a 48.0% jump, while gasoline and diesel cars saw declines of 18.2% and 8.6%, respectively.
