Germany’s Ifo Business Climate Index rose to 88.8 in August, its highest level in a year and the fourth consecutive monthly increase.
The reading comfortably exceeded market expectations of 87.2, pointing to a gradual improvement in sentiment across Europe’s largest economy.
Both current conditions and expectations strengthened during the month.
The expectations component climbed to 89.1 from 86.8 in July, suggesting companies have become more optimistic about economic prospects in the months ahead.
Meanwhile, the assessment of current conditions improved to 88.5 from 86.5.
The data indicate that Germany’s economy is showing tentative signs of stabilization after a prolonged period of weakness.
However, the recovery remains fragile, with geopolitical uncertainty in the Middle East continuing to pose risks to energy prices, inflation and overall economic activity.
