China Stocks Split at Finish
The Shanghai Composite rose 0.19% to close at 3,697.5 on Monday, while the Shenzhen Component fell 1.19% to 11,534.4, as investors braced for a busy week of corporate earnings, with results from AI-linked firms in focus alongside developments at the Fifth Plenum. Chinese technology companies, including Eoptolink Technology Inc. and GigaDevice Semiconductor, will be closely watched for signs that earnings can justify the massive investments pouring into AI. SMIC (-1.28%), Hygon Information Technology (-1.54%), Zhongji Innolight (-2.96%) and Eoptolink Technology (-3.57%) were among the biggest laggards. Meanwhile, earnings from BYD Co., Air China Ltd. and Kweichow Moutai Co. will also offer clues on whether domestic consumption can help support growth as the economy remains heavily reliant on exports. Investors are also focused on the Fifth Plenum, running from Monday through Thursday, where President Xi Jinping opened the meeting and called for firm governance measures.
