The Shanghai Composite fell 0.5% to 3,699 on Monday, while the Shenzhen Component dropped 0.9% to a two-month low of 11,702, despite signs of improving economic momentum.
China’s economy grew 4.5% year-on-year in Q3 2026, from Q2’s three-year low of 4.3% and above market expectations of 4.4%.
Growth in the first nine months of the year reached 4.6%, keeping the economy on track to meet the government’s full-year target of 4.5%-5%.
Moreover, industrial output picked up to 5.5% in September from 5.2% in August, while retail sales climbed to 1.1% from 0.4%.
The surveyed urban unemployment rate also edged down to 5.2% from a five-month high of 5.3%.
Both indices fell despite renewed efforts by authorities to support the equity market, including urging companies and state funds to increase share purchases and some investors to curb selling.
Notable decliners included SMIC (-3.8%), CATL (-2.8%) and Shennan Circuit (-2.3%).
