The Shangai Composite Index Closes 0.81% Lower

The Shangai Composite Index decreased 31 points or 0.81 percent on Thursday to close at 3811 points. The decline was led by Guangzhou Automobile (-8.56%), BAIC BluePark (-5.92%) and Greenland Holdings (-4.55%). On the upside, the strongest performers were Sinopec (3.41%), Petrochina (3.39%) and Sanan Optoelectron (3.22%).

SHANGHAI decreased to 3806.00 Index Points, the lowest since August 2026. Over the past 4 weeks, Shanghai Stock Exchange Composite Index lost 3.64%, and in the last 12 months, it decreased 3.21%.

The Shanghai Composite fell 0.79% to close at a more than two-month low of 3,811.9, while the Shenzhen Component slumped 2.07% to an over ten-month low of 12,620.9 on Thursday, tracking losses across Asian markets after a sharp overnight selloff on Wall Street. The selloff was mainly driven by surging Treasury yields, while minutes from the Fed’s September meeting showed unanimous support among all 19 policymakers for the latest rate hike, with a majority also backing an additional increase before year-end. Attention now turns to a series of key Chinese economic releases due next week, including inflation and trade data, following the recently announced stimulus package, which included mortgage subsidies, expanded central bank funding support, and a State Council pledge to introduce "a package of practical and effective additional policies." Notable laggards included Foxconn Industrial Internet (-4.31%), China Life Insurance (-2.07%), CATL (-1.50%) and Zhongji Innolight (-3.15%).
