The Shangai Composite Index Closes 0.76% Higher

The Shangai Composite Index went up by 29 points or 0.76 percent on Wednesday to close at 3894 points. The rise was led by Sanan Optoelectron (2.57%), Inner Mongolia BaoTou Steel (1.90%) and Zijin Mining (1.45%). On the downside, the weakerst performers were Sany Heavy Industry (-7.13%), Petrochina (-2.79%) and Great Wall Motor (-2.40%).

The Shanghai Composite rose 0.71% to close at 3,891.6 on Wednesday, while the Shenzhen Component climbed 1.26% to 13,454.7, erasing losses from the previous session amid signs of progress in US-China trade talks. Expectations for an extension of the trade truce between the two economies are firming, with the two sides discussing tariff cuts on goods including US energy and agricultural products. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Tuesday that he will meet his Chinese counterpart, He Lifeng, this weekend ahead of the Sept. 24 summit between President Donald Trump and Xi Jinping in Washington. Providing additional support to both benchmarks were strong gains in AI-related stocks, including Cambricon Technologies (5.60%), SMIC (5.26%), Zhongji Innolight (3.53%), and NAURA Technology (2.17%). Energy stocks were among the laggards, particularly PetroChina (-2.70%), CNOOC (-1.11%), and China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (-1.51%).

SHANGHAI decreased to 3850.00 Index Points, the lowest since August 2026. Over the past 4 weeks, Shanghai Stock Exchange Composite Index lost 3.16%, and in the last 12 months, it decreased 0.5%.
