The Shangai Composite Index Closes 0.10% Lower

The Shangai Composite Index fell 4 points or 0.10 percent on Friday to close at 3953 points. Leading the losses are Industrial Bank (-3.05%), Sdic Power (-1.94%) and Datang Intl (-1.18%). Top gainers were Hengli Petrochemical (3.92%), Guangzhou Automobile (3.87%) and Sinopec (3.59%).

The Shanghai Composite fell 0.11% to close at 3,952.2 on Friday, while the Shenzhen Component dropped 0.68% to 13,953.1, as investors turned cautious amid renewed US threats against China. President Donald Trump signaled that Chinese banks could face sanctions, while Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent earlier warned that financial institutions involved in facilitating Iranian oil revenues could become targets under Washington's intensified pressure campaign against Tehran. Meanwhile, reports also emerged that the US is preparing to impose a 7.5% tariff on Chinese goods over alleged industrial overcapacity. The remarks came as both the US and China continued preparations for Chinese President Xi Jinping's planned visit to the US next month. Notable laggards included Wuxi AppTec (-1.59%), Industrial Bank Co. (-3.22%), CATL (-1.21%), Eoptolink Technology (-2.47%), and NAURA Technology (-2.85%). Over the week, the Shanghai Composite rose 1.2%, while the Shenzhen Component fell 1.0%.

The Shangai Composite Index gained 45 points or 1.16 percent on Thursday to close at 3958 points. Gains were led by Hengli Petrochemical (3.34%), Shaanxi Coal (2.62%) and China Coal (2.47%).
