The Shanghai Composite lost 1.85% to close at 3,882.4 on Thursday, while the Shenzhen Component slid 1.97% to 14,488.7, with both indices hitting their lowest levels in more than three months as a broad selloff in technology shares weighed on the market.
The sector came under renewed pressure as concerns mounted over whether robust earnings growth can continue to justify elevated valuations.
Tech and chipmaking stocks, including Cambricon Technologies (-5.06%), SMIC (-1.2%), Zhongji Innolight (-4.82%), Eoptolink Technology (-2.41%), and NAURA Technology (-5.37%), posted losses.
Risk sentiment was further dampened by data showing that China's GDP grew at its weakest pace since Q4 2022 and fell below the government's 2026 growth target range of 4.5%-5.0%.
In response, the PBOC pledged stronger policy support in the second half of the year, signaling flexibility to use tools such as RRR cuts and reverse repos while maintaining the seven-day reverse repo rate as its key policy benchmark.
