China Stocks Fall for Fifth Session
The Shanghai Composite dropped 0.3% to below 4,040 on Wednesday, extending losses for a fifth consecutive session as geopolitical uncertainties in the Middle East and volatile oil prices kept investors cautious. The Iran war intensified this week with Tehran stepping up attacks on regional energy infrastructure, while US allies rejected President Donald Trump’s call to help secure shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Trump also requested that China delay his summit with President Xi Jinping by about a month, citing the need to focus on the Iran conflict, after previously linking any delay to China’s willingness to assist with the Strait of Hormuz. Clean energy stocks led the decline, with Sungrow Power down 2%, Contemporary Amperex off 0.9%, and BYD Company falling 1.8%.
