Brazil Auto Sales Slip in August

Brazil’s new-vehicle sales fell 1.6% month over month to 275,100 units in August 2026, following a 2.6% increase in July.
August had two fewer business days.
Light-vehicle sales totaled 263,100 units, with passenger cars up 0.2% to 213,100, while light commercial vehicles fell 5.5% to 50,000.
Heavy-vehicle sales totaled 12,000 units, as truck sales slumped 14.1% to 10,000 and bus sales dropped 9.4% to 2,000.
Electrified vehicles reached a record 24.4% share, including a record 25,900 fully electric vehicles.
Average daily sales were 13,100 units, the second-highest level this year, behind May’s 13,700.
Year to date, sales reached 1.975 million units, up 18.4% year-on-year.
The 2 million-unit mark was reached in early September, one month earlier than in 2025.
