Brazil Vehicle Sales Jump in May

New vehicle sales in Brazil jumped 10.6% month-on-month to 274,700 units in May 2026.

The month posted the highest average daily sales since December 2014, with 13,700 vehicles sold per day.

Electrified models accounted for a record 19.5% of total sales.

Fully electric vehicles reached a new high of 21,000 units, while hybrid models totaled 30,700 units.

Imported vehicle sales amounted to 55,000 units in May and 223,000 units in the first five months of the year, up 17.4% and outpacing the growth of domestically produced vehicles.

By origin, imports from China surged 86.6%, while those from Argentina fell 16.8%.

Exports remained a concern, with shipments totaling 37,400 vehicles in May, marking a second consecutive monthly decline.

Cumulative sales surpassed the 1 million-unit mark.

Brazil Car Sales Spike 45.5% in March
New car sales in Brazil spiked 45.5% to 269,500 vehicles in March 2026 compared to February, marking the best March result since 2013. The BYD Dolphin Mini 2026 became the first electric vehicle to enter the top ten monthly sales ranking with 7,053 registrations, ahead of the Hyundai Creta at 6,674. The Fiat Strada led the overall ranking with 16,706 registrations, followed by three hatchbacks: Volkswagen Polo at 11,051, Chevrolet Onix at 10,182, and Fiat Argo at 8,281. March was the strongest month of 2026 for Brazil's automotive sector.

New car sales in Brazil rose 8.6% month-over-month to 185,200 units in February 2026, with average daily registrations hitting 10,300, the second-highest for February in the past decade. Passenger car sales surged 12.3% to 140,600 units, trucks rose 3.3% to 6,700, and buses jumped 10.7% to 1,306. Light commercial vehicle sales declined 3% to 36,600. Year-over-year, total registrations edged up just 0.1%, reflecting modest growth despite strong monthly momentum and resilient consumer demand amid high interest rates.
