Frankfurt's DAX 40 rose 0.5% to around 25,300 on Monday, trying to recover ground after last week's weakness, amid relief from lower oil prices and some easing pressure on bond yields.
Meanwhile, investors braced for a busy week of key economic and policy announcements, as well as a fresh batch of corporate earnings.
Sector-wise, industrials, banks and pharma & healthcare were the standout performers.
Bayer climbed as much as 3%, leading the benchmark’s gainers, after its prostate cancer drug Nubeqa demonstrated a 58% reduction in the risk of disease progression or death in high-risk patients.
Other top performers included Siemens Energy (2.2%), Hochtief (1.9%), Airbus (1.6%) and MTU Aero Engines (1.4%).
Deutsche Bank and Commerzbank also advanced firmly, rising 1.5% and 1.4%, respectively.
On the flip side, BASF (-1.4%) and Deutsche Telekom (-0.8%) lagged.
