Tech Weakness Drags DAX Lower
Frankfurt's DAX 40 fell about 0.4% to trade near 25,200 on Thursday, pressured by a broader sell-off in technology stocks. Investor caution intensified as concerns over AI-related spending coincided with fears of higher US interest rates and the prospect of increased financing costs, particularly for companies reliant on substantial investment. Meanwhile, traders continued to monitor geopolitical developments and corporate earnings worldwide. Infineon Technologies plunged over 9%, making it the worst performer, with AI-related Siemens Energy (-6.9%) and Hochtief (-3.5%) also falling sharply. Other notable decliners included Siemens, Continental, GEA Group, RWE, Deutsche Bank and Commerzbank, falling between 0.6% and 2.6%. On the upside, telecom, insurers and software companies advanced the most. Deutsche Telekom led gains, rising over 3%, followed by Scout24 (3%), Hannover Ruck (2.6%) and Munchener Ruck (2.5%).
