DAX Finishes on Solid Footing

Frankfurt’s DAX 40 closed about 1.2% firmer at 25,231 on Friday, halting a two-day losing streak and outperforming its European peers.

Strength in the technology sector provided the main boost, while lower oil prices and stabilizing bond yields added to the positive sentiment.

Investors pushed aside recent rate and inflation worries as the planned release of up to 100 million barrels from strategic oil reserves helped ease concerns over energy prices, while weaker US employment data tempered expectations of further Fed tightening..Meanwhile, Eurozone inflation hit a three-year high of 3.8% in September, above the 3.6% expected, but the recent bond selloff could make the ECB wary of further rate hikes.

Chipmaker Infineon Technologies (+8.8%) and AI infrastructure-linked Hochtief (+2.3%) and Siemens Energy (2.1%) posted the biggest gains.

Industrials, utilities and telecom also performed well.

For the week, the index lost about 0.7%.

DAX Gains Ground
Frankfurt’s DAX 40 extended early gains on Friday, rising over 1% to cross 25,200, led by tech stocks, while falling oil prices eased inflation concerns and helped drive bond yields lower. Reports that European countries could release oil reserves following a French proposal offered some relief. Meanwhile, Eurozone inflation accelerated to 3.8% in September, its highest level in three years and above analysts’ expectations of 3.6%. The recent bond selloff could nevertheless make the ECB more cautious about raising interest rates again. Despite the improved market sentiment, geopolitical risks remained in focus, with prospects for a truce between the United States and Iran appearing increasingly distant. The US is reportedly sending a third aircraft carrier to the region, along with an additional 10,000 American troops. Tech stocks saw strong buying, with Infineon Technologies surging over 5% and AI related Siemens Energy up 2.7%. Industrials, autos and telecom also performed solidly.
