The DAX Index Closes 0.66% Lower

Frankfurt's DAX 40 closed about 0.7% down at 25,411 on Wednesday, lagging its regional peers as surging oil prices and higher bond yields pressured equities. Brent crude rose back above $100 a barrel as uncertainty over the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz kept geopolitical risks elevated. Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian, addressing the 81st UN General Assembly, said Tehran would never “bend at the knee” in response to external pressure and blamed the US and Israel for global instability. Meanwhile, higher energy prices, alongside signs of resilient economic growth, strengthened expectations for further ECB rate hikes this year. Germany’s flash services PMI for September added to the positive economic backdrop, surprising on the upside. Several sectors faced pressure, particularly autos, banks, insurers, industrials and techs. Scout24 led losses among stocks, slipping 5.2%, followed by Allianz (-4.2%), Volkswagen (-3.2%), Mercedes-Benz Group (-3%) and Deutsche Bank (-2.9%).

The DAX Index dropped 168 points or 0.66 percent on Wednesday to close at 25411 points. Losses were led by Allianz (-3.97%), Scout24 (-3.75%) and Porsche Automobil (-3.70%). Offsetting the fall, top gainers were Rheinmetall (3.60%), SAP (2.36%) and Fresenius (1.47%).

Frankfurt's DAX 40 extended losses to trade below 25,400 on Wednesday, as oil prices fluctuated, with traders awaiting the concrete outcome of the talks between US and Iranian delegates at the UN General Assembly. President Trump described the meetings held yesterday on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly between US and Iranian delegates as "very constructive," announcing further contacts shortly. Attention also turns to the upcoming meeting between President Trump and President Xi Jinping, which will focus on key issues such as trade, artificial intelligence, supply chains, and geopolitical issues. On the domestic data front, Germany’s flash services PMI for September surprised to the upside. Scout24 led losses among stocks, down 2.3%, followed by Volkswagen (-1.7%), BMW (-1.6%) and Deutsche Post (-1.6%). On the upside, MTU Aero Engines (1.4%), Rheinmetall (1%) and SAP (0.7%) posted the biggest gains.
