Frankfurt's DAX 40 turned slightly positive to trade above 25,600 on Tuesday, as oil prices retreated on reports of a potential reopening of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran in exchange of easing US military pressure.
Meanwhile, ongoing tensions in the Gulf kept investors cautious, with the UN General Assembly in focus for signs of diplomatic progress toward ending the conflict.
President Trump is due to address the assembly later today and has left open the possibility of meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Meanwhile, political concerns persisted after Germany’s CDU suffered its worst-ever result in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, winning no seats and prompting calls for Chancellor Merz to step down.
Retail, travel-related stocks, utilities and techs advanced the most, while insurers and autos lagged.
Zalando and Adidas topped the index, rising 2.7% and 2.5%, respectively.
Scout24, GEA Group and Deutsche Post also advanced firmly.
Allianz was the biggest laggard, falling 1.8%.
