The DAX Index Opens 0.23% Lower

Frankfurt's DAX 40 turned slightly positive to trade above 25,600 on Tuesday, as oil prices retreated on reports of a potential reopening of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran in exchange of easing US military pressure. Meanwhile, ongoing tensions in the Gulf kept investors cautious, with the UN General Assembly in focus for signs of diplomatic progress toward ending the conflict. President Trump is due to address the assembly later today and has left open the possibility of meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. Meanwhile, political concerns persisted after Germany’s CDU suffered its worst-ever result in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, winning no seats and prompting calls for Chancellor Merz to step down. Retail, travel-related stocks, utilities and techs advanced the most, while insurers and autos lagged. Zalando and Adidas topped the index, rising 2.7% and 2.5%, respectively. Scout24, GEA Group and Deutsche Post also advanced firmly. Allianz was the biggest laggard, falling 1.8%.

Frankfurt's DAX 40 fell 0.3% to trade below 25,500 on Tuesday, after a strong start to the week the day before, in line with other European peers. The renewed rise in oil prices and geopolitical risks kept investors cautious, with attention turning to the UN General Assembly for signs of progress in easing Middle East tensions. US President Donald Trump is due to address the assembly later today and has left open the possibility of meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. Insurers, banks, autos were the hardest hit, while utilities, techs and retailers recorded the strongest gains. Among stocks, Allianz, Vonovia, Deutsche Bank, BMW and Mercedes-Benz Group saw losses between 1%-2.3%. On the upside, RWE (1.4%), Scout24 (1.2%) and Adidas (1%) advanced the most.

The DAX Index is losing 58 points. Losses were led by Allianz (-2.70%), Vonovia (-2.03%) and Deutsche Bank (-1.36%). Offsetting the fall, top gainers were Adidas (1.48%), RWE (1.17%) and Zalando (1.16%).
