DAX Deepens Losses
Frankfurt’s DAX 40 closed about 1.6% down at 25,296 on Friday, its lowest since late July, as caution returned to markets. Trading was also influenced by the so-called “quadruple witching” day, when several major derivatives contracts expire simultaneously. Meanwhile, investors eyed developments in the Middle East ahead of next week’s summit between US President Trump and Gulf-state leaders. Locally, attention turns to state elections in Berlin and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania on Sept. 20, in another test to Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s leadership following the AfD’s strong showing in Saxony-Anhalt. Almost all sectors fell, led by autos, telecoms and banks, while techs advanced. Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz Group and BMW were among the worst performers, falling 5.5%, 4.5% and 4.2%, respectively. Deutsche Telekom dropped 4.1%, following a negative analyst report for its French competitor Orange. On the upside, Infineon Technologies gained 2.7%. For the week, the index posted a 1.1% loss.

DAX Falls on Friday
Frankfurt’s DAX 40 fell about 0.7% to around 25,500 on Friday, retreating after two consecutive sessions of gains and broadly tracking its regional peers. Caution returned to European markets following a week packed with central-bank decisions, despite another drop in oil prices. Meanwhile, traders focused on diplomatic developments in the Middle East, with attention now turning to next week’s planned meeting between US President Trump and Gulf-state leaders on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. Most sectors traded lower, with telecoms, autos and insurers among the biggest decliners, while technology stocks outperformed. Deutsche Telekom dropped over 3%, making it the top loser. Conversely, Infineon Technologies surged 3.7%, following a bullish outlook from Nvidia’s CEO, who predicted the company would sell twice as many chips over the coming year. AI-linked shares Siemens Energy and Hochtief also posted solid gains.
