Frankfurt’s DAX 40 closed about 0.7% firmer at 25,717 on Thursday, it highest in more than a week, marking the second straight session of gains.
The continued decline in oil prices and the easing in global bond yields lifted market sentiment.
The Federal Reserve’s rate hike and hawkish stance a day earlier also reassured investors of its commitment to containing inflation while defending its policy credibility.
Meanwhile, President Trump threatened the EU with “very serious tariffs” or trade restrictions over Ursula von der Leyen’s proposal to allow Canada to become the bloc’s first “associate member.” Most sectors recorded gains, particularly autos, industrials, banks and utilities.
Qiagen NV led the way, surging 3.8%, amid rumors of renewed private equity interest for aquisition.
Siemens Energy added 3.5%.
Automotive stocks also saw strong buying, with shares of Volkswagen, BMW and Mercedes-Benz rising 2.7%, 1.9% and 1.3%.
