Frankfurt’s DAX 40 rose about 0.7% to above 25,700 on Thursday, reaching its highest level in more than a week as oil prices continued to decline and global bond yields eased following the widely anticipated 25-basis-point rate hike by the US Federal Reserve.
Fed Chair Kevin Warsh maintained a firm stance on inflation while avoiding a renewed surge in long-term yields, a combination that reassured investors.
Meanwhile, trade tensions were in focus after President Trump threatened the EU with “very serious tariffs” or trade restrictions over Ursula von der Leyen’s proposal to allow Canada to become the bloc’s first “associate member.” Most sectors traded in the green, led by autos and industrials.
Energy stocks such as Siemens Energy (+2%) and automotive stocks like BMW (+1.5%) and Volkswagen (1.1%) saw higher demand.
On the flip side, the tech sector came under pressure, with Infineon Technologies among the biggest decliners, falling 2.5%.
