The DAX Index Closes 0.15% Lower

Frankfurt's DAX 40 pared initial losses to close about 0.2% down at 25,402 on Tuesday, marking the second day of decreases, as rising oil prices and elevated bond yields continued to weigh. Meanwhile, caution prevailed ahead of the Fed's policy outcome on Wednesday, with the central bank expected to hike rates for the first time in three years to fight stubbornly high inflation. Domestically, Chancellor Friedrich Merz vowed to soon unveil measures to combat high fuel prices ahead of a crucial election in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Banks came under pressure after Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan warned of a 10% drop in third-quarter fees. Deutsche Bank and Commerzbank fell 2.5% and 0.5%, respectively. On the upside, defense stock Rheinmetall (+3.2%) advanced firmly amid continued geopolitical tensions and reports of US munitions shortages. Tech stocks such as Infineon Technologies recovered, gaining 0.4%, while AI-related stocks such as Siemens Energy and Hochtief also rose.

The DAX Index decreased 39 points or 0.15 percent on Tuesday to close at 25402 points. The decline was led by Zalando (-3.63%), Deutsche Bank (-2.37%) and Daimler Truck Holding AG (-1.82%). On the upside, the strongest performers were Rheinmetall (3.55%), Qiagen NV (1.81%) and RWE (1.64%).

The DAX 40 fell about 0.5% to around 25,300 on Tuesday, the lowest since July 24 and marking the second day of losses, led by banks, while elevated global bond yields and rising oil prices continued to weigh. Deutsche Bank and Commerzbank dropped 3.2% and 1.2%, respectively, after Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan warned of a 10% drop in third-quarter fees. Attention also turned to the US Federal Reserve's interest rate decision expected on Wednesday, where investors anticipate a tightening of monetary policy. Meanwhile, tech stocks, including Infineon Technologies (-0.8%) remained weak following calls from industry leaders to slow AI development. Other top losers were BASF (-2%), Daimler Truck (-1.6%), Vonovia (-1.5%) and Brenntag (-1.3%).
