The DAX 40 fell about 0.5% to around 25,300 on Tuesday, the lowest since July 24 and marking the second day of losses, led by banks, while elevated global bond yields and rising oil prices continued to weigh.
Deutsche Bank and Commerzbank dropped 3.2% and 1.2%, respectively, after Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan warned of a 10% drop in third-quarter fees.
Attention also turned to the US Federal Reserve's interest rate decision expected on Wednesday, where investors anticipate a tightening of monetary policy.
Meanwhile, tech stocks, including Infineon Technologies (-0.8%) remained weak following calls from industry leaders to slow AI development.
Other top losers were BASF (-2%), Daimler Truck (-1.6%), Vonovia (-1.5%) and Brenntag (-1.3%).
