DAX Closes Higher, Still Posts Weekly Loss
The DAX 40 closed about 0.6% firmer at 26,137 on Friday, halting a four-session losing streak, amid gains across most sectors, while positive economic data also contributed. Flash PMI data showed eurozone manufacturing activity grew at its fastest pace in more than four years in August, led by Germany and underscoring the region’s resilience to the Middle East conflict. Meanwhile, enthusiasm remained tempered by elevated oil prices and persistently high bond yields, alongside geopolitical uncertainty. Consumer discretionary stocks advanced firmly, led by automakers, retailers and sportswear companies. Technology stocks also performed well, while pharmaceutical, healthcare and utility stocks lagged. Adidas (2.1%) led the way, followed by BMW, Scout24, Siemens, Infineon Technologies and Zalando, rising between 1.4%-2%. Among the laggards, Qiagen NV dropped 3%, while MTU Aero Engines and Fresenius Medical Care fell 2% and 1.8%, respectively. For the week, the index shed around 1.2%.

DAX Attempts Recovery
The DAX 40 rose 0.6% to near 26,150 on Friday, snapping a four-session losing streak, led by gains in technology stocks and utilities. However, sentiment remained cautious amid elevated oil prices and bond yields, alongside persistent geopolitical uncertainty. On the data front, Germany’s private sector continued to expand modestly in August, as a strong rebound in manufacturing offset another contraction in services. Chipmaker Infineon Technologies and AI-focused Hochtief and Siemens Energy were among the top performers, advancing 1.8%,1.7% and 1%, respectively. RWE also stood out, up 1.9%. By contrast, top decliners included Qiagen NV, MTU Aero Engines, Rheinmetall, Bayer and Fresenius Medical Care, falling between 1% and 1.9%. The index was set to record its first weekly drop in five weeks, losing around 1.5%.
