The DAX Index Opens 2.00% Lower

Frankfurt's DAX 40 clawed back into positive territory on Monday, advancing 2.6% to breach the 22,900 level and outperforming its regional peers. The rally was triggered by news of a possible de-escalation between Washington and Tehran, after US President Donald Trump said the United States and Iran had held “very good and productive” talks and that he was suspending planned strikes on Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for five days. The rebound was broad-based, with industrials, technology, and financial stocks driving gains. Siemens Energy and Siemens topped the index, rising 6.4% and 5.3%, respectively. Other notable performers included Brenntag, Infineon, Airbus, Commerzbank and Heidelberg Materials, with gains between 3.8% and 4.8%. Among losers, Vonovia and Hannover Ruck stood out, falling 1.5% and 0.8%, respectively.

Frankfurt's DAX 40 continued its downward trend on Monday, slipping 1.8% to below the 22,000 mark, the lowest since April 2025, as markets were rattled by escalating US-Iran tensions over the weekend. Donald Trump's ultimatum to Iran regarding the Strait of Hormuz and Iranian threats of retaliation against strategic infrastructure are exacerbating global economic uncertainty. Meanwhile, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s conservative Christian Democrats took an early lead over their coalition partner SPD in a key regional vote in Rhineland-Palatinate. Losses were broad-based across sectors, with technology, financials, and industrials among the most pressured. In equities, Vonovia underperformed, falling nearly 5%, followed by Infineon Technologies (-3.5%), Rheinmetall (-3.5%) and MTU Aero Engines (-2.8%). BASF fell over 2% after warning its new Chinese chemical plant will take longer than expected to turn profitable. In the MDax, oil-sensitive Deutsche Lufthansa dropped 4.7%.

The DAX Index is falling -447 points. Losses were driven by Vonovia (-4.76%), Infineon (-3.60%) and Siemens Energy (-3.34%).
