Germany 10-Year Bond Yield Falls Slightly

2026-11-04 17:58 By Anna Fedec 1 min. read

Germany’s 10-year Bund yield fell by 3bps to below 3.78% on Wednesday, tracking a decline in US Treasury yields following an unexpected Democratic sweep in the US midterm elections.

The Democrats’ takeover of the House and Senat is seen as reducing the likelihood of further deficit-expanding legislation under the Trump administration, easing concerns about government borrowing.

However, the decline in German yields was more modest than across other European bond markets, as new data pointed to persistent inflationary pressures, reinforcing expectations that further rate increases may be necessary.

Eurozone annual inflation accelerated to 4% in October, its highest since September 2023 and well above the ECB’s 2% target, largely driven by surging energy prices.

Despite last week’s decision to leave rates unchanged, officials signalled that further increases may be needed to contain inflation and prevent price pressures from spilling over into wages.

Bund Yields Rebound From Two-Month Lows
Germany’s 10-year Bund yield rebounded above 3.3%, recovering from near two-month lows and tracking higher US Treasury yields ahead of Tuesday’s US midterm elections. German borrowing costs declined in October as a selloff in AI-related stocks drove investors towards safe-haven assets, while markets scaled back expectations for further ECB rate hikes. However, hawkish comments from ECB officials on Friday, hours after the bank left rates unchanged, suggested that monetary tightening may have been postponed rather than ruled out, keeping the possibility of a December rate hike on the table. Meanwhile, Bunds could continue to find support from expectations of Democratic gains in the US midterms, which may weigh on Wall Street and broader risk appetite. Polls favor Democrats to regain control of the House of Representatives, while the outcome of the Senate race remains uncertain.
