Germany’s 10-year Bund yield has been swinging around 3.1% in August, tracking US Treasury yields, as traders navigate shifting developments in the Middle East and conflicting signals over the prospects of a deal between the US and Iran, while also assessing the resulting rise in oil prices and its impact on inflation.

In Europe, market-based measures of inflation expectations, reflected in swaps for the Euro Area over the next year, are around 2.4%, above the ECB’s 2% target.

Eurozone inflation edged up to 2.9% in July.

Meanwhile, the Euro Area economic outlook has improved, with recent resilience prompting analysts to become more optimistic about growth.

The Eurozone economy expanded 0.4% in Q2, the strongest pace since early 2025 and growth is projected to moderate in the near term before gradually gaining momentum.

As a result, investors expect the ECB to deliver another 25bps rate hike in September.

Germany 10-Year Bund Yield Pulls Back
Germany’s 10-year Bund yield fell to around 3.15%, remaining below the 15-year high hit above 3.2% in July, as renewed hopes for a Middle East agreement eased inflation concerns and pushed oil prices lower. Pakistan signaled optimism that the US and Iran were “close to some sort of arrangement” over the Strait of Hormuz, potentially reducing tensions and supporting the restoration of energy flows. The positive assessment followed tougher rhetoric from President Trump, who said Tehran should pay reparations for deaths linked to attacks and domestic protests, in response to demands made by Iran over the weekend. Investors are now assessing whether diplomatic progress can lead to a broader agreement and sustained easing in energy prices. Lower oil costs could reduce inflationary pressure and provide greater flexibility for monetary policy. The European Central Bank left interest rates unchanged in July after delivering a 25-basis-point increase in June, its first rate hike in three years.

German 10-Year Bund Yield Approaches 15-Year High
Germany’s 10-year Bund yield rose to 3.198%, approaching the 15-year high above 3.2% reached in July, as higher oil prices revived concerns over inflation. US President Donald Trump’s tougher demands on Iran have clouded prospects for an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, pushing crude prices higher and adding to inflationary pressures. Trump called for compensation from Tehran, while Iran has reiterated demands for reparations as part of negotiations to end the conflict. Meanwhile, the European Central Bank left rates unchanged in July after a 25-basis-point hike in June, its first increase in three years.
