The HCOB Germany Construction PMI fell to 42.8 in October 2025, missing expectations of improving to 46.9 from 46.2 in September, marking the steepest contraction in activity since March.
All three broad construction segments recorded declines, with housing activity performing the weakest and civil engineering returning to contraction after two months of growth.
New orders continued to fall, though at the slowest pace since April, slightly improving firms’ expectations for activity in the year ahead.
Employment and purchasing levels both declined, with buying activity falling sharply while workforce numbers edged down modestly.
Supplier delivery times lengthened for the first time in nine months.
Average input prices rose at a slower rate, while subcontractor charges increased at the fastest pace in over two years.
Overall, constructors remained pessimistic amid weak demand, high costs, and elevated long-term interest rates.
