China Jobless Rate Falls to 5.2% in September

China’s surveyed unemployment rate fell to 5.2% in September 2025, compared to market expectations and August’s six-month high of 5.3%.

The jobless rate among locally registered labor forces stood at 5.3%, while the rate for the migrant labor force was 4.9%.

Within the migrant workforce, those holding agricultural household registration recorded an unemployment rate of 4.7%.

Across 31 major cities, the urban surveyed unemployment rate was 5.2%, 0.1 percentage point lower than the previous month.

Meanwhile, the average weekly working hours for enterprise employees nationwide reached 48.6 hours.

From January to September, the national urban surveyed unemployment rate averaged 5.2%.
