The Shanghai Composite climbed 2.16% to close at 3,686.2 on Wednesday, while the Shenzhen Component surged 4.22% to 11,335.7, staging a strong rebound after the previous session’s losses as Beijing stepped up efforts to stabilize the stock market.

The PBoC said applications for its stock-purchase loan program had exceeded 200 billion yuan, a swift response to a recent regulatory meeting aimed at streamlining financing for share buybacks.

The central bank also conducted 100 billion yuan worth of swaps with brokers and fund companies to support their stock purchases.

The latest measures underscore Beijing’s commitment to supporting equities amid weak consumer demand, sluggish economic activity and a prolonged property downturn.

The rebound was also supported by a sharp recovery in the technology sector, particularly Cambricon Technologies (10.38%), SMIC (9.0%), Hygon Information Technology (10.29%), Zhongji Innolight (11.07%), NAURA Technology (10%) and Eoptolink Technology (13.35%).

The Shanghai Composite slipped 1.10% to close at 3,649.2 on Friday, while the Shenzhen Component slid 2.57% to 11,175.8, with both indexes snapping a two-session winning streak and tracking losses across Asian markets, weighed down by a significant selloff in the technology sector. While investors initially anticipated that a Democratic sweep of the US Congress would accelerate efforts to end the Iran war, those geopolitical expectations were overshadowed by growing concerns over potential regulatory headwinds for the AI and data center industries, which could cloud the funding outlook for data infrastructure.
