The Shanghai Composite rose 0.59% to close at 3,912.5 on Wednesday, while the Shenzhen Component gained 0.69% to 13,841.3, as investors eagerly awaited developments from the ongoing National People’s Congress Standing Committee meeting.

The August 25–28 session is being closely watched for policy support following weak economic data and repeated pledges from policymakers to bolster growth.

Meanwhile, China Merchants Bank is issuing a three-year floating-rate note linked to the overnight bond repurchase rate, becoming the first domestic commercial lender to do so.

The Export-Import Bank of China recently became the first policy bank to issue debt tied to the same benchmark.

The move reflects the PBOC’s efforts to make the overnight repo rate the main benchmark for short-term funding costs, aligning its policy framework more closely with international standards.

Zijin Mining Group (2.35%), SMIC (3.46%), Luxshare Precision Industry (4.10%), and Sungrow Power Supply (2.76%) gained.
