The Shanghai Composite jumped 1.18% to close at 3,997 while the Shenzhen Component gained 1.51% to 13,489 on Monday, with the former hitting fresh ten-year highs amid hopes for a trade breakthrough in the Trump-Xi meeting in South Korea this week.

US and Chinese negotiators said they had reached consensus on key issues including export controls, fentanyl, and shipping levies after productive weekend talks in Malaysia.

Sentiment was further boosted by data showing China’s industrial profits surged 21.6% year-on-year in September, the fastest pace since November 2023.

Technology and AI-related stocks led the rally, with Eoptolink Technology, Zhongji Innolight, Victory Giant, Foxconn Industrial, and ZTE Corp advancing between 3% and 10.1%.

High-growth clean energy and materials firms also gained, including Sungrow Power (1.2%), China Northern Rare Earth (4.1%), and Zijin Mining (3.2%).

Chinese Stocks Post Weekly Gains
The Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.33% to close at 4,080 on Friday, while the Shenzhen Component Index dropped 0.69% to 14,940, as fading hopes for a swift resolution to Middle East tensions weighed on sentiment. President Trump’s reported order authorising naval forces to “shoot and kill” vessels allegedly laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz pushed oil prices higher again, stoking global inflation concerns. Chinese exporters are seen raising prices as several consumer goods posted sharp annual increases in March. Investor sentiment was further dampened by White House accusations that China engaged in large-scale intellectual property theft from US AI labs, adding friction ahead of a planned leaders’ summit next month. In corporate news, DeepSeek released a preview of its highly anticipated V4 model. Meanwhile, Eoptolink Technology slumped 11.67% despite solid Q1 earnings results. Despite Friday’s losses, the Shanghai Composite still rose 0.7%, and the Shenzhen Component added 0.37%.
